Online Learning: Tutoring and Facilitation

Masters level - 30 credits

So you are involved in tutoring or facilitating online learning? What are the practical strategies and models for doing this successfully? How do they relate to the underpinning theories of learning?

This module is suitable for anyone whose professional context includes supporting learning online. This includes online NPQH tutors, LPSH trainers, online mentors or others involved in this developing area.

The module's learning activities are supported by online discussions, which form the key interactions between learners and tutors and that model best practice behaviour. The expectation is that course members will spend 3 hours per week contributing to these online discussions.

Units of study are

  • The Online Context
  • Learning Styles
  • Design for Online Learning
  • Styles of facilitation and tutoring
  • Evaluation
Assessment consists of two components:
  • an action enquiry report, analysing the theory, design and practice of online learning;
  • a portfolio of your professional practice demonstrating the planning, execution and evaluation of online tutoring or facilitation.
