The form of most of today’s ‘traditional Christmas carols’ can be traced back to the mid 19th century. In A Sound Of Christmas Past, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer have created a sound that celebrates the Victorian Christmas carol by bringing together some of the best known (and less well known) carols and presenting them in a sensitive, beautiful and honest way reminiscent of the West Gallery Singers of the time.

This CD will appeal to those who associate Christmas with, carols, singing, dancing and the joy of being together as a family and a community. Like a good cup of mulled wine, this CD is full of warm cozy moments.

Original Cover artwork by Karen Cater of Hedingham Fair.

“The perfect Christmas present”
An album of internationally familiar Christmas Carols that are simultaneously ‘folky’, honest and reminiscent of the late Victorian era when they would have been in their heyday.

"unfailingly wonderful"
The traditional Christmas includes many pleasures - gathering friends, love of family, prevalence of goodwill and sharing music and song. Simple, unworldly joys that endure. This year our musical celebrations will definitely include ‘A Sound Of Christmas Past’.

Forget tinselly, greedy commercial Christmas; Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer have been singing traditional carols for a long time, and A Sound Of Christmas Past (Wetfoot Music WFM 140501) is 14 of their favourites, from 'I Saw Three Ships' through the rare and beautiful 'Essex Wassail' to the 160-year-old 'Jingle Bells', composed by the American James Pierpoint. 'Down In Yon Forest' is medievally, mysteriously symbolic, and the whole package, enhanced by Vicki's luscious nyckelharpa and Johnny's rippling guitar and accordion, is very worthy of a thoughtful gift to the one you love.
