May has been and gone…

Hello!
What a month we’ve had! We can’t believe that May is nearly gone! We had the wildest couple of commutes between gigs. Milton Keynes to Stockholm to Fishguard. We played for a wonderful Swedish/French wedding on the south coast, hid from some gnomes in London.. it’s been a wild and wacky month. The album is finished in terms of recording, but the mixing continues.

The Swedish Bagpipe tune book is out. It’s been printed in two keys, one for border pipes in G and one for everyone else (but is particularly superb on the nyckelharpa or fiddle. Check out its page for details.

Sweden was very special. We took The Whispering Road out and performed it to the school and then helped years 5 – 7 put on their own storytelling show. A really well motivated and wonderful bunch of children, it was a real pleasure to be there!

Things quieten down a little in June, but we’re still haring around the country!
Check out our gigs page to see if we’re near you!

More soon!

April Already?

Hello!
It’s April already, time has flown by and we’ve been busy recording.  We’ve made a little videoblog – but day after day recording isn’t that exciting to blog about!  We’ve got a couple of weeks until we’re back into the full swing of gigs again, but you’ll find us in Bracknell on Tuesday of next week.

We’ve got a great weekend lined up near the end of April at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club.

Saturday 20th:  Scottish Pipe tunes for any instrument.  Vicki will be leading this tune workshop on her Scottish Smallpipes in D – so any instrument capable of playing in D (with C naturals) is more than welcome! (There will be two sets of Scottish smallpipes floating around for people to try too).

Sunday 21st: Nyckelharpa – any chromatic instrument welcome.  There will be five nyckelharpas for people to have a go on and bring your own chromatic instrument and learn some nyckelharpa and some Swedish tunes.  It’ll be epic!

We have quite a few gigs lined up and we’re hoping that Vicki’s tune book will be back from the printers in time.  Fingers crossed!  In the mean time.  See you somewhere on the road!

March News

Hello!
It doesn’t seem a month since I last posted here!  Time flew by with seriouskitchen.  We had such a great time on the Whispering Road.  We played lots of great venues and made lots of new great friends.  One of the highlights was our day videoing at The High Barn in Great Bardfield and we’re busy releasing out youtube videos.  We spent a week editing all the footage together and are really pleased with the way it all came out.  We’re collating it into a playlist, so keep an eye on the embedded video below to see the footage!

We’ve now converted the spare room to recording studio and even whilst I am busy typing this Jonny is laying down  a guitar part for a new song.  I’ve got the job of turning the click off at the right time for the ritenuto at the end.  I’ve got the video camera by my side and we’ll be documenting the process with a video blog, watch this space!

We do have a couple of gigs this month, the most exciting one being playing for International Bagpipe Day at the Pitt Rivers museum in Oxford on Saturday 9th March.  I’m presenting on the Swedish bagpipes, which is really exciting.  I’ve got my presentation all prepped and ready to go.  I should have a draft copy of my new Swedish tune book ready for people to see too. (The real thing won’t be out for another month or two whilst I sort out the ISBN number and send off for duplication).

Anyway, hope to see you soon!

February Gigs

Hello!
We’ve been really busy with “The Whispering Road” over the last couple of weeks and it’s been great fun.  Pop on over to the seriouskitchen website and facebook page to keep up to date with the show tour.  In the quiet moments Vicki has finished the first draft of a book of Swedish bagpipe tunes for G border pipes.  We’re hoping it’ll be ready in time for International Bagpipe Day, but as the final product is hoping to include a CD with the book the chances are slim –  but not impossible!    Whilst on tour with the show we’re also out on the road with the duo, here are the duo dates for this month:

04.02.13 – Tonbridge Folk Club, Tonbridge, Kent
05.02.13 – Ringwood Folk Club, Ringwood, Hampshire
07.02.13 – Lyceum Folk Club of Newport, Newport, Wales
08 – 10.02.13 – Cheltenham Folk Festival, Cheltenham
15.02.13 – Shirley Folk Club, Shirley, Solihull, Birmingham
21.02.13 – Duton Hill Folk Club, Duton Hill, Essex

Hope to see you at either one of these or on the Whispering Road.

Links and Stuff

Hello!
The new structure of the website has meant that some of the links are sort of broken. Everything is still here, so if you’ve got to the site and can’t find what you’re looking for, drop us a line from the contact page and we’ll either fix the link or show you where it is.

New Website Launched

Hello!
We’ve worked really hard over Christmas and we’ve just finished the new website.  Ok, it looks a little like the old one, but it’s a complete overhaul underneath the bonnet.  Hopefully we’ve fixed all the gremlins, but if you find any drop us a line!

Busy building our new website…

Hello and Happy Christmas!
We’re out in Sweden having a really, really wonderful white christmas with family.  No space to bring our instruments with us this time, so we’re busy rebuilding our website.  It’ll probably look much the same by the time we’ve finished it, but we’re now powering it with wordpress.  So if you catch this site before we move the web address over, watch as each page gets populated.  We’re loving the blog plugin, the shop plugin and hoping for a good giglist plugin too.  In the mean time, hope you’re all having a great Christmas!

🙂
